DowntownDC BID is a private non-profit organization that provides capital improvements, resources, and research that keep the DowntownDC BID area clean, safe, economically, and environmentally strong and accessible. The DowntownDC BID is a catalyst, facilitator, and thought leader in diversifying the economy, promoting public/private partnerships, and enhancing the DowntownDC experience for all. This special district, where property owners have agreed to tax themselves to fund services, encompasses a 138-block area of approximately 520 properties from Massachusetts Avenue on the north to Constitution Avenue on the south, and from Louisiana Avenue on the east to 16th Street on the west.

DowntownDC BID is looking for a Full-Time Project Manager. The Project Manager will have a central role in helping to shape the appearance of the public realm in the heart of Washington, DC. This position will report to and support the Director of Planning in implementing public art, public space, and transportation projects within the boundaries of the DowntownDC BID.

The candidate will focus on the implementation of the New York Avenue Sculpture project, a four-block public art installation on New York Avenue from 9th to 13th Street NW. They will serve to implement projects that beautify, add visual intrigue, and adapt public space to better serve the workers, residents, and visitors of DowntownDC. The successful candidate should have experience working in public space, either from a construction, real estate development, public art, or planning background.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the District Department of Transportation, other District agencies, consultants, and BID colleagues to effectively plan for and manage installations in public space; and to track, monitor, and identify new opportunities for improved mobility (and traffic-related safety) in DowntownDC.
  • Assist in area-wide planning to create a network of public art installations in DowntownDC that will attract visitors and improve the experience of workers and residents alike.
  • Support in area-wide planning projects to improve mobility and access, and public space use and appeal in DowntownDC.
  • Select locations and seek approval for District Department of Transportation permits for in-street dining locations, known as streateries and parklets.
  • Monitor and evaluate area transportation projects and assets, and work to advance projects that will enhance mobility and traffic-related safety in DowntownDC for users.
  • Research and report on applicable legislative actions, public space related data, safety information, best practices, and other related topics as assigned.
  • Represent the BID at occasional public sector meetings on projects related to public art and transportation within DowntownDC.
  • Track changes in the transportation network and share alerts with stakeholders where needed.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, or other related fields; or a minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in one of the aforementioned fields.
  • Demonstrated growth and increased responsibility in previous employment in one of the aforementioned fields.
  • Familiarity with local government (ideally DC), designing and building in public space, public art, and transportation planning.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite of products, including Outlook; familiarity with ArcGIS and Adobe Creative suite a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Drive and determination to complete projects that have a positive impact on DowntownDC, its residents and workers.
  • Flexibility and openness to learning and adapting to changing community and stakeholder needs.
Instructions

Start Date: Early Summer 2021, requires 6 months minimum commitment, with the opportunity to become a full-time, permanent job at the end of the contract.
