LISC DC is seeking a multi-skilled individual with a passion for strengthening communities through effective and thoughtful investment, grant making, policy work and related activities. It invites people to apply who have experience working with diverse populations in Washington, D.C. and Prince George’s County and who possess general expertise in community development, including health, economic development, real estate development, and community programming.

The Program Officer will successfully promote the mission and value of LISC DC to its funders and community partners. The Program Officer reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates with other staff to develop appropriate strategies for matching funding needs with community capital resources.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, design, and implement a range of projects, programs and initiatives, examples may include initiatives focused on investing along commercial corridors, crafting and representing LISC in public policy conversations or undertaking residential, community facilities, and economic development activities as a part of large-scale development projects in the DC region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local government agencies, community organizations, banks, philanthropic institutions, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative efforts towards improving health and wealth equity.
  • Support fund development for the office which may include writing grant proposals and reports, coordinating events, creating a fundraising calendar to track application and report deadlines, prospecting and representing LISC in local, national and statewide coalitions.
  • Prepare, monitor, track and manage LISC grants, investments, performance, and outcomes. This may include providing guidance and support to partners on grant compliance, including federal financial reporting compliance.
  • Facilitate and convene meetings, trainings, and peer gatherings to build partners’ capacity and provide access to resources.
  • Represent LISC DC in relevant community forums, conferences, and public events to share insights and promote the organization's mission
  • Assume responsibility for special projects and other assignments, as needed.
  • Support and develop creative approaches for measuring and communicating the local LISC impact in the community as a thought-leader, convener, and investor.
  • To accommodate our stakeholders, periodic evening and weekend work will be required.
  • Interested candidates must be comfortable traveling and working within a wide range of neighborhood and professional settings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban studies, planning, public health, public policy, social work, real estate, community economic development or related fields. Relevant related work experience can also be used as proxy.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in community development. Experience in Prince George’s County or Washington D.C. Preferred.
  • Commitment to racial and economic equity, with a track record of work that has contributed to more racially and economically equitable outcomes
  • Highly motivated, solution-oriented individual who is self-directed, and able to successfully work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, set priorities for a challenging workload, and be a positive, solution-oriented professional.
  • Ability to develop and execute plans for community-articulated needs in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Listens, speaks, and writes effectively to build meaningful relationships with team members and partners, and to convey information for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to design, apply, and maintain efficient systems for tracking time, tasks, resources, and other information.
  • Must be able to embrace and promote a culture of individual and shared trust and accountability—internally and externally
  • Relationship Building: Develops positive relationships and works well with others from diverse backgrounds.
