Planner II

Performs professional level municipal planning and project management work over a variety of subject areas. Must be versed in the principles and practices of local government planning. Seeks solutions to planning related problems and formulates recommendations within broad policy and organizational guidelines. Serves as project manager and takes the lead on collecting and analyzing data, performing research, analysis, and summarization of data to assist in the development of reports, plans, policies and programs. Responds to internal and external planning inquiries. Works both independently and with teams to implement projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. Performs complex analysis of development plans for consistency with adopted ordinances, plans, policy, and guidelines. May be called upon to coordinate and/or lead citizen engagement activities. Attendance at evening meetings is required. Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple projects. Must be able to work effectively with and provide exceptional customer service to city staff, members of the community, developers, and policy makers. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Must have excellent written skills. Must be able to develop and interpret data, charts, maps, and other graphics. Qualifications

Requires bachelor’s degree in planning or closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

 

Master’s degree preferred.
AICP certification preferred.
