Historic Preservation Specialists

Assist the Director of the Division of Historic Preservation and take lead of the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission and the day-to-day administration of the Commission’s responsibilities and office management.

This is a growth-oriented junior leadership position focused on taking responsibility for HPC design and planning review applications, preparation of staff reports, conduct site visits, meet with applicants, lead public meetings, and execute special research assignments and grant projects to advance the mission of the HPC.  Administrative duties include correspondence, record keeping, filing, billing, reviewing applications, preparing mailings, coordination of activities, meetings, and all aspects of office management. Requires full time, in person/35 hrs. week plus occasional after-hours meetings paid as flex time. There is no work from home option. Occasional use of personal vehicle for site visits.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or  university with at least a Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation, History, Anthropology, Architecture, Architectural History, Landscape Architecture, Anthropology or Archaeology, or in a related field with significant course work in one of the above-named fields (college transcript and diploma must be submitted) .

3-5 years of experience working in historic preservation, architecture, urban planning,  architectural projects, CRM, architectural or public history in the public or private sectors, with demonstrated experience in preparation of technical reports, historic research, architectural history, office administration and/or other professional experience related to the urban planning, archaeology, history or architecture fields. NOTE: A Master’s degree in one of the listed disciplines may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.

 Must be a NJ resident upon acceptance of position
