Doctoral candidate Bridget Kerner has been selected for a UMD Global STEWARDS (STEM Training at the Nexus of Energy, WAter Reuse and FooD Systems) graduate training fellowship. The selective fellowship, funded by the National Science Foundation, prepares future leaders focused on innovations at the nexus of food, energy and water (FEW) systems. Kerner was one of 12 other doctoral candidates to secure a spot in the 2020 cohort, beating out a formidable pool of applicants from across the university.
Bridget’s research concentration centers on environmental planning, with a focus on environmental justice and public health. Assistant Professor of Urban Studies and Planning Marccus Hendricks, who is currently working with Bridget on a sanitary sewer overflow project in Baltimore City, will serve as her advisor for the program.
“Bridget has an energetic personality and an original, creative and positive approach toward research and work,” he said. “I am confident that she will excel as a Global STEWARD.”
The UMD Global STEWARDS fellowship provides an environment for collaborative, interdisciplinary work through hands-on experiences, research and outreach to address the ramifications of population growth and climate change. Learn more about the program here.
