The architecture program has certain endowed scholarships that support architecture students in ARCH Education Abroad venues. These scholarship funds are available on a competitive basis. Follow the steps below to apply for this category of scholarship funding.

The following funds provide scholarships for students majoring in architecture. Each scholarship may have stipulations. The scholarships are awarded for student participation in University of Maryland Education Abroad programs offered by Architecture Program faculty members.
William and Sondra Bechhoefer Travel Scholarship Fund
Established in June 2008, with gifts from friends and colleagues of William Bechhoefer, on the occasion of his retirement, the William and Sondra Bechhoefer Travel Scholarship Fund provides awards for travel/study abroad for students enrolled in the Architecture Program.
Michael Scott DeFrance Travel Award
This fund was established in March 1996 by Dr. and Mrs. John H. DeFrance, in memory of their son, Michael Scott DeFrance, who was a senior architecture major at UMD. Funds are used to support two study abroad travel awards, one to an undergraduate and one to a graduate student, both of whom are enrolled in the Architecture Program in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
Grimm + Parker Travel and Scholarship
The Grimm + Parker Endowment was established in January 2003 by Grimm + Parker Architects. Funds provide annual scholarship support for students in the Architecture Program in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
Klatskin Foreign Travel Endowment Fund
Established in December 2008 by alumnus Alex Klatskin, AIA, M. Arch. '88, this fund provides annual awards for foreign travel for students admitted to the graduate program in architecture in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
Thomas L. Schumacher Memorial Endowment
Established in November 2011 by colleagues, students, friends and family of Thomas L. Schumacher, long time faculty leader of the summer program and a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. This fund provides support for students enrolled in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation to participate in the School's Rome Summer Study Program, named in memory of Professor Schumacher.
John and Sarah Steffian Fellowship Fund
This fund, established by former Dean John Steffian and his wife Sarah Steffian, supports fellowships for students in the Architecture Program
Erik B. Young, M.D. and Joyce D.C. Young Scholarship - Roman and Classical Study - Restoring Ancient Stabiae Award
This fund was established to promote undergraduate student teaching and graduate student and faculty research departments and disciplines that exhibit strong and continuing support for this project. Funds are used to provide travel abroad opportunities for students involved in the project.
