The purpose of this fund is to support students in summer study abroad programs offered by the Architecture Program.

This Internship / Scholarship program provides a qualified graduate architecture student with both a paid summer internship and an academic scholarship for the following semester.
"David M. Schwarz / Architectural Services, Inc. (DMS/AS) has established an internship and traveling fellowship open to one third year M.Arch, first-year M.Arch Advanced Standing, or first-year M.Arch Post-Professional student in the University of Maryland School of Architecture. The fellowship consists of a paid internship in the office of DMS/AS in Washington, D.C. plus a $10,000 stipend for travel and independent research in the summer of 2008. The selection criteria and application requirements are determined by the School. If required, it is incumbent upon the applicant to obtain appropriate legal authorization for employment according to applicable government regulations.
The recipient will work in the office of DMS/AS in Washington, D.C. for a minimum of ten weeks and receive an hourly wage. Travel to and from Washington, D.C. and living expenses incurred during the internship will be at the recipient's expense. DMS/AS may assist in locating affordable housing and other arrangements for living in Washington D.C. or the surrounding area. Travel is intended to further one’s professional and educational goals. The length of travel, destination, and area of study are at the recipient’s discretion. Funding for the travel is intended to be the primary use of the stipend. Any remaining monies may be used for the recipient’s educational expenses including tuition, books, and fees. DMS/AS will award the stipend through the University of Maryland School of Architecture, who will oversee its direct dispensation.
Documentation of the fellowship (such as sketches, notes, renderings, photos, or any combination of appropriate media) is to be provided to DMS/AS and to the University of Maryland School of Architecture upon return. These materials will be kept on file in the DMS/AS Architectural Library and the School of Architecture Library. The recipient shall also return to DMS/AS to give a presentation to the office within the subsequent academic year or immediately thereafter. All reasonable travel expenses incurred for this return visit will be reimbursed by DMS/AS."
