The School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) at Morgan State University – a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) – will manage the Morgan Community Mile Project. This project involves applied research, technical assistance, and information dissemination targeted to the neighborhoods surrounding Morgan State’s Baltimore campus. Building on its long tradition of serving the African American community, this project is representative of SA+P’s commitment to improving the life of diverse urban populations. The project is a part of the Morgan's 2011-2021 strategic plan.
The Morgan Community Mile project consists of two phases. Phase I involves the development of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the targeted area. A key component of Phase I is the strategic planning process, through which the University Center team will identify strategic partners for this effort, including departments within Morgan State University, businesses, renters, homeowners, and Community Development Corporations within the Morgan Community Mile, and the Baltimore City Department of Planning. Phase II will involve implementing specific projects identified in the CEDS.
