Who is eligible to register for the CfC Challenge?
All undergraduates currently enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park campus are eligible to register for the competition.

How do I get a team together?
If you need help identifying members use the mailing list provided or just let me know. Teams are self-forming.  Teams can be comprised of classmates in a single class, single program or single school.  They can be formed from sororities, fraternities or dormitories or living learning centers. Team composition is determined solely by you.

What is the size and composition of a CfC team?
Teams must be between 2 and 4 undergraduate students.

How do teams decide what to create?
Community Sponsors will provide an initial perspective as to the types of apps that would address community needs.  In addition, teams are also encouraged to search for other existing community based apps for ideas.

Can Graduate Students be part of my CfC team?
Graduate students can have an advisory role in the development of the app. They are not considered part of the 2 to 4 student requirement.  They cannot write the application, but can provide technical assistance as well as instruction in the design and development of the app. They must be affiliated with the College Park campus.

    Can Faculty have a role?
Faculty can play an advisory role in the development of the app. This role is solely at the discretion of the faculty member.  They cannot write the application, but can provide technical assistance as well as instruction in the design and development of the app. They must be affiliated with the College Park campus.

    What if I can’t program?
Programming is not a requirement to be a participant in the CfC Challenge.  This is a team effort and not everyone on the team need be able to program.  It is hoped and encouraged that teams have a mix of programmers and non-programmers.  Non programmers provide valuable insight  to complement the programmer’s perspective. They can aid in the collection of data, conduct  reviews of existing apps, and provide additional perspectives on how to define and address community need.  Indeed, non-programmers can take this opportunity to learn a bit of code.
