A registered architect since 1990, Ms. Gabrielli has been practicing for 20 years. In 1998 she established a solo practice to focus on sustainable design practice and consulting. With her partner, Kim Schaefer, she founded TerraLogos eco architecture in 2002, which specializes in LEED project coordination and sustainable design consulting. She founded Gabrielli Design Studio in 2005, to focus on sustainable design and strategic sustainability for businesses and institutions, from mission clarification to cultural and physical environments.
In addition to sustainable design consulting and LEED coordination, Julie has designed renovations, additions, and updates for several buildings. Past projects include the New Bolton Center office/classroom facility, the historic Admiral Fell Inn, and master planning for the Maryland Historical Society. Many of her residential projects have won design awards. In 1998 Ms Gabrielli was Project Architect for the Maryland Institute College of Art Bunting Center, which was awarded the AIA Baltimore Grand Design Award and the Maryland Society AIA Honor Award.
Ms. Gabrielli frequently teaches about design and the environment at the university level. She is an Adjunct Member of the Graduate Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, where she teaches Sustainable Design studios and seminars. From 2005 until 2007, she was one of three faculty advisors to the University of Maryland's Solar Decathlon entry, LEAFHouse.
She was a Visiting Professor at the University of Tennessee School of Architecture in Knoxville in 1998. She has been invited as a visiting lecturer and reviewer to the University of Virginia, The Catholic University of America, University of Pennsylvania, and Spring Garden College. In Baltimore, she coordinated a yearly lecture course for the Johns Hopkins University Odyssey Program and was an instructor in the Maryland Institute College of Art continuing studies program. She lectures on sustainable design at national and international conferences.
