Julie Ju-Youn Kim, RA is one of the original founders/principals of the award-winning practice, studiozONE, a critical architectural design practice, initially founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994. In 2000, she founded CONSTRUCTWO, LLC, a woman-owned architectural practice. With offices in Michigan and Maryland, she embraces a committed multi-disciplinary approach to innovative, inventive, and thoughtful design.

In professional practice, Julie has led a variety of architectural projects, including the award-winning Dentalium project, initial transit station concept development for a light-rail system in Detroit, Michigan, the award-winning Huntington Woods Community Center, and the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center. Prior to coming to Maryland, she held an academic appointment as an Associate Professor with tenure and the Director of the Graduate Program in the School of Architecture at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Her current research is focused on studies in material culture with particular emphasis on making and craft. Additionally, she is interested in the examination and exploitation of the seam between live and work and how this challenges conventional domestic space.

Her teaching experience includes the Boston Architectural Center and an International Studio with Lawrence Technological University as a Visiting Professor. She has participated as guest critic at the University of Maryland, Miami University of Ohio, Carleton University, Lawrence Technological University, The University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Clemson University, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Ball State University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Wellesley College and her Master of Architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
