Carl Lostritto teaches Introduction to Digital Media (ARCH 470) and introductory architectural design studio (ARCH 400/404).
Carl Lostritto’s research, practice and teaching emphasize an experimental role of digital media in the design process. With a methodology influenced by programming cultures, Lostritto completed his Spring 2008 Master’s thesis research, “Imaging Computation: Scripting and Animation as Process and Product,” for which he was awarded the Graduate Program Thesis Award. Upon graduation from the University of Maryland's graduate program in architecture, Lostritto was awarded the Alpho Rho Chi Medal for leadership, service and the promise of professional merit. In addition to exploring design scripting, Lostritto employed animation as design media towards the articulation of space and experience. Lostritto also framed much of his research around design pedagogy, exploring the potential for technology to enhance early design education.
In Lostritto’s six years at the University of Maryland as a student, he demonstrated an interest for an expanding approach to architecture by engaging the Studio Art program and the Human Computer Interaction Laboratory. After receiving a B.S. in Architecture summa cum laude in 2006, Lostritto continued directly into the graduate program, where he co-founded Module, a critical, independent student publication of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. It was during this time as a student that Lostritto developed his interest in teaching.
