After working as a private sector historic preservation consultant for a decade, John Sprinkle has served as a historian for the National Park Service since 1989. He holds a doctorate in American history and a master’s degree in historical archaeology from the College of William and Mary. Dr. Sprinkle is the author of: Crafting the Preservation Criteria: The Origins of the National Register of Historic Places. He serves on the City of Alexandria, Virginia’s Historical Restoration and Preservation Commission and has taught historic preservation courses at a variety of institutions.
