In Summer 2012, 16 American graduate students of architecture, urban planning, historic preservation and real estate development, traveled to Russia to work on a site plan with 20 Russian architecture students  The 4-week collaboration resulted in a plan for a site located across the Obvodny Canal from the city center.

The Gasholder Site lies within the industrial ring of St. Petersburg.  As democratic, demographic and market forces exert their influence on the city, pressure mounts to transform the area, presenting very specific challenges to development.
