School Commencement Ceremony

The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, Ballroom
Doors open at 8:30am for guests
- Important Tidbits for Graduates
- Leave your purses and valuables at home or in the car. Your meeting room will not be locked and there is no place to store valuables.
- In room 1110, each program will have a faculty marshal who is responsible for lining you up in the correct order and leading you in the procession- check in with him/her when you arrive. The marshals are as follows:
- PhD and Preservation - B.D. Wortham-Galvin
- Architecture (Grad) - Brian Kelly
- Planning - Sidney Brower
- Development - Susannah Florance
- Architecture (Undergrad) - Isaac Williams
- During the ceremony, when you and your classmates hear, "Will the candidates for the degree of (your program), please rise," stand-up and remain standing- you shouldn't take your seat again until you have walked across the stage. You will enter the stage using the stairs on your left, shake hands with the Dean and your program director and then exit the stage on the other side. When you return to your seat, remain standing until your entire row is in place, and then take your seat together. Your marshal will remind you of these and other important tidbits the morning of commencement- so don't be late.
- Tickets
- Tickets are not required. We've estimated 5 guests per graduate, understanding that some will have 3 and others will have 7 guests, and the space is large enough to accommodate these estimates.
- Graduate Attire and Procession
- All graduates are expected to wear full regalia, including caps, and should arrive no later than 8:45am. Graduates will meet in room 1110 in The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center and begin lining-up promptly at 9am. Regalia should be purchased from the University Bookstore. The hood colors for Master's programs are as follows: Architecture, Preservation and Development (Lavender), Planning (Peacock Blue), and Ph.D. (Red and Dark Blue). The undergraduate Bachelor of Science stoll is gold.
