The Italian Cultural Institute invites you to a lecture by Filippo Caprioglio on his work, which engages with the built environment at multiple scales, from urbanism to architecture to industrial design. 

Filippo Caprioglio is the visiting Fall 2008 Kea Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. In this role, he mentors graduate architecture students, providing invaluable real-life insights into design and construction processes.

Caprioglio received a degree in Architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) with the thesis "The Museum of the City in Mestre" in 1997. He received a Master of Architecture from Syracuse University's program in Florence, Italy in 2001.

Caprioglio has taught in Florence, Italy for the architecture study-abroad programs of Kent State University and Syracuse University. He has also taught at Syracuse's home campus in New York. He has been invited to several final and thesis reviews by many universities, including IUAV Venice, School of Architecture of Ferrara, University of Trieste, University of Colorado, Kent State and the University of Maryland.

Professionally, he has completed projects in independent practice and with the firm Caprioglio Associati in partnership with his father. His most recent projects include new residential buildings, renovation and new concept stores, urban renovation planning, the restoration of Ca’Foscari in Venice for the University of Venice, new offices and an ophthalmology clinic.

Along with his architectural expertise, Filippo Caprioglio has a passion for industrial design that has led him to design lamps, chairs and everyday objects for Italian and foreign manufacturers.

Caprioglio is a member of the scientific committee of the architecture magazine “Mestre idee per una città possibile” by Marsilio. His personal research and professional projects have been published in books and magazines such l’Arca, Design Diffusion, Progettare, I quaderni di Spazio e Società, Foglio, Villa Rossa Voice and Design Arredo. A monograph, Giovanni Caprioglio: Space and Context 1997–2007, about his office's recent work was published in 2007.
