Mariela Garcia-Colberg, PhD Student

Mariela is a PhD student in URSP. She has a BA in Psychology and International Development from Washington University In St. Louis, a M.S.W. with a concentration in Social Policy Administration from Boston College, and a Juris Doctor from University of Puerto Rico Law School.  She was working as a Real Estate attorney with a major San Juan law firm when she decided to pursue a PhD at University of Maryland.

Mariela is currently working with Gerrit Knapp; her interests include preservation and creation of community, affordable housing, mixed income developments and inclusionary zoning.   She is currently a Graduate Assistant with the Undergraduate Legal Aid Office where she supervises student defenders.  She is also licensed to practice law in both Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
