Yuchen Cui, PhD Student
Yuchen Cui entered the Ph.D. program at Maryland in 2012. Before that, Yuchen earned her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Tongji University in Shanghai, China and master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She began her graduate work at UW-Madison via the Transportation and Urban Systems Analysis Laboratory, a program that fed her interest in econometric modeling and spatial analysis, particularly in transportation planning research.
At the University of Maryland, Yuchen joined a research program under Dr. Frederick Ducca in the National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education to look at the urban transportation issues in terms of reducing congestion and replacing driving by walking or bicycling.
For her Ph.D. work, she hopes to connect with and complement not only existing transportation research, but also in areas such as psychology, sociology and other social sciences to apply new techniques and perspectives to solving transportation problems from a user's perspective.
