Accredited Professional Degrees
The Architecture Program offers two tracks leading to a Master of
Architecture, an accredited professional degree -- Master of
Architecture (M. ARCH) and the Master of Architecture (M. ARCH --
Advanced Standing).
Additionally, both of the Master of
Architecture degrees may be combined with a Master of Community
Planning degree (M. ARCH / M.C.P.) All of the above degree paths
have been designed to complement the previous educational experience of
graduate applicants.
- Master of Architecture (M. ARCH) - A seven-semester
professional degree program is available to applicants who possess a
Baccalaureate in a discipline other than architecture.
It is
not unusual for graduate students wishing to pursue the seven-semester
M. Arch degree to hold Bachelors degrees in design, business,
engineering, fine art, history, landscape architecture, literature, or
science. Recent graduate students have studied at top national
universities, including the University of Maryland. Applicants with an
undergraduate major other than architecture must complete prerequisite
professional and academic courses prior to beginning the program.
- Advanced Standing - Applicants with a pre-professional major in architecture such as the Bachelor of Science in Architecture
may complete the Master's program in as little as two academic years,
depending upon satisfaction of the prerequisite criteria of the
program.
- Dual Degree (M. ARCH/M.C.P.) - Combines
coursework from the Architecture and Urban Studies and Planning
programs to enable student to complete both degrees with fewer credits
than it would take to complete the two degrees separately. To receive
the dual M. ARCH/M.C.P. degree, students must satisfactorily complete
72 hours of coursework, submit a thesis document, and complete a thesis
in architecture.
Post-Professional Degrees
The Architecture Program also offers a three semester Master of Science in Architecture (M.S. in ARCH)
degree for students who have already earned a professional degree,
but who wish to continue their studies and gain expertise in
Architecture and Urban Design.
Certificate Programs
Furthermore, the School of Architecture offers Certificate Programs
in Historic Preservation, and Urban Design to provide students an
opportunity to study and be recognized in a specialized area of
interest.
