DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2018 INTERNSHIP-SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNTIES WILL BE POSTED ON 8 JANUARY 2018.

 

Annually graduate students in the architecture program benefit from the generous support of local firms committed to developing the next generation of leaders in architecture.  These opportunites provide students with paid internships as well as significant scholarship support.  The 2018 internship-scholarship opportunities will include:

 

David M. Schwarz Architects Internship and Traveling Fellowship Award

This scholarship provides a 10-week paid internship at the office of David M. Schwarz Architects  in Washington, D.C. and a $10,000 stipend for travel and independent research during the summer; open to graduate students who are one year or one semester from graduation.

 

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Proposed Summer Schedule for Internship and Travel
  • Estimated Budget for Use of Travel Stipend
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (Must submitted as a PDF)

 

 

Design Collective Endowment

Established in April 2000 by Design Collective, funds provide annual support to enhance the academic mission of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

 

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (Must be submitted as a PDF, you may use either a PDF or physical portfolio for the interview)

 

 

Jack Smith Kerxton Memorial Fund

Established in March 1994 by Barbara (Cookie) Kerxton, the Fund Committee (various relatives, friends and business associates of Jack Smith Kerxton) and Torti-Gallas Architects and Planners, this fund provides financial aid, scholarships and/or fellowships to students enrolled in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

 

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (Must be submitted as a PDF, you may use either a PDF or physical portfolio for the interview)

 

 

Gensler University of Maryland Alumni Scholarship

Established in 2015 by University of Maryland Alumni who are practice leaders at Gensler. The Gensler Alumni Scholarship fund provides scholarship and internship opportunities for graduate students in the School of Architecture,Planning and Preservation.

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio with written description (500 words total and 10 pages maximum. Must be submitted as a PDF)

 

 

Ayers Saint Gross Endowment Fund

Established in 2000 by University of Maryland Alumni who are practice leaders at Ayers Saint Gross. The ASG Alumni Scholarship fund provides scholarship and internship opportunities for graduate students in the School of Architecture,Planning and Preservation.

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio with written description (500 words total and 10 pages maximum. Must be submitted as a PDF)

Eligibility

To be eligible for any of these internship-scholarships applicants must have:

  • successfully completed ARCH 600/611 and ARCH 601;
  • intend to register for either ARCH 700 or ARCH 798/799 in the upcoming fall semester;
  • be legally eligible for paid employment in the United States.
