Annually graduate students in the architecture program benefit from the generous support of local firms committed to developing the next generation of leaders in architecture.  These opportunites provide students with paid internships as well as significant scholarship support.  The 2014 internship-scholarship opportunities are:

 

David M. Schwarz Architects Internship and Traveling Fellowship Award

This scholarship provides a 10-week paid internship at the office of David M. Schwarz Architects  in Washington, D.C. and a $10,000 stipend for travel and independent research during the summer; open to graduate students who are one year or one semester from graduation.

 

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Proposed Summer Schedule for Internship and Travel
  • Estimated Budget for Use of Travel Stipend
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (may be submitted as a PDF)

 

 

Design Collective Endowment

Established in April 2000 by Design Collective, funds provide annual support to enhance the academic mission of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

 

Required materials for consideration:

  • Completed application
  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (may be submitted as a PDF)

 

 

Jack Smith Kerxton Memorial Fund

Established in March 1994 by Barbara (Cookie) Kerxton, the Fund Committee (various relatives, friends and business associates of Jack Smith Kerxton) and Torti-Gallas Architects and Planners, this fund provides financial aid, scholarships and/or fellowships to students enrolled in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

  • Statement of intent (1000 words maximum)
  • Resume (1-2 pages)
  • Portfolio (may be submitted as a PDF)

Eligibility

To be eligible for any of these internship-scholarships applicants must have:

  • successfully completed ARCH 600/611 and ARCH 601;
  • intend to register for either ARCH 700 or ARCH 798/799 in the upcoming fall semester;
  • be eligible for paid employment in the United States.
