Strategic Plan 2011

School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation

Lead in professional education / learning:

  1. Integrate service learning (real world, actual problems with community clients) into studios and courses.
  2. Create interdisciplinary courses.  Our disciplines are inherently inter-disciplinary.  This is the first step to achieve trans-disciplinary education.
    Actions:
  3. Expand global opportunities for students
  4. Intensify communication skills (verbal, oral and graphic)

Lead in sustainability education (major / minor):

  1. Create a center piece course on sustainability for all students in the School
  2. Develop a minor in sustainability for our undergraduates

Enhance research / scholarship / creative activity efforts:

  1. Showcase faculty achievement
  2. Institute structured global mentor / mentee relationships
  3. Improve technology knowledge among faculty
  4. Travel funds for each faculty. Priority for tenure track junior faculty
  5. Produce a new and transparent APT policy 

Recruit and retain high quality students to all programs:

  1. Increase Student Scholarships
  2. Promote paid internships
  3. Improve admissions process
  4. Build a greater sense of community
  5. Improve student job placement services

Contribute to the advancement of the professions by faculty and students:

  1. Faculty local resource orientation (professional and specific to MAPP)
  2. Increase diversity of faculty
  3. Promote faculty scholarly accomplishments to professions
  4. Increase production of creative activity and scholarly research

Pursue life-long value for alumni and friends:

  1. Showcase alumni achievements
  2. Provide multiple venues for alumni to participate with the School
