Hours of Operation
9 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday
through Friday
New users should introduce themselves to one of the curators for orientation
and assistance.
Access and Borrowing Privileges
Use of The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) and borrowing privileges
are extended to School of Architecture faculty and students in those respective
classes. Users must select their own slides for presentations. However,
curators and staff are available to help with research and can suggest
related areas of the Collection. Requests via phone or otherwise will
not be honored.
Access to the VRC beyond regular hours is granted to Faculty and, by special
permission, to those teaching during the current session. Students are
not permitted to use the VRC beyond the posted hours of operation.
Research
The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) is an important resource available
to both students and faculty in the School of Architecture, serves the
disciplines of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Historic Preservation.
It is conveniently located in the School of Architecture building, in
room 1107, just down the hall from the Library. Students are able to research
a building quickly by reviewing images in the Collection, and by looking
at the book source information noted on the slide labels. In conjunction
with the library, VRC provides easy access to visual materials for researching
architecture and related topics.
Additionally, there are slide projection drawing devices that allow students
to make sketches from slides, which can be extremely useful for analysis
and transformation of precedent, a core component of the studio curriculum.
Class Presentations
Students may put slides on RESERVE for class presentations
or for research of a particular topic. Slides are kept in a RESERVE box
in the room until the time of the students presentation. Students
are required to ask the Curators for assistance, and will be given a brief
orientation the first time they use the slide collection. Curators can
often suggest related areas of the Collection for a students research.
If students find they need slides made from books or magazines of their
own or from the library, the VRC can provide this service as long as the
request is made two weeks in advance of the presentation.
