WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?
|
"Spatial images are the dreams of society. Wherever the hieroglyphics of any
spatial image are deciphered, there the basis of social reality presents itself."
Siegfried Kracauer, On Employment Agencies: The Construction of a Space.
(N. Leach, Rethinking Architecture: A Reader in Cultural Theory, p. 59 - 64) |
This course is designed to introduce you to three interrelated domains that bear upon the design of the built environment:
- The ideas underlying architectural praxis (architectural theory).
- The material manifestations of those ideas (architectural history).
- The major themes (concepts, constructs) that have emerged at various times from the intersection of theory and history.
