ARCH 170 - Introduction to the Built Environment

Extra Credit: Snapshots of the Contemporary City: Powerpoint slide

I. Photograph/Choose two images of the contemporary city:

  1. The first should depict a place, element, and/or situation in the Built Environment that you believe should be PROTECTED.
  2. The second should depict a place, element and/or situation in the Built Environment that you believe should be ALTERED.
Note: Photos by yourself or by someone else (as long as you credit your source) are both acceptable.

II. Captions

    Create a brief caption for each image. Use this opportunity to explain why you chose each image and what you think is valuable or problematic about what it depicts. Identify what the image is (what, where, when, etc.) and source.

III. Consider: How to craft your caption/image pairs to provoke thought.

IV. Format

    Use the given Powerpoint slide template to format your slide.
    Your slide should include:
    • Two side-by-side 150 dpi jpg or .tiff images labeled “alter” or “protect”
    • Captions for each image placed in the notes portion of the slide
    • Save as POWERPOINT SLIDE

V. Delivery

    Send the Powerpoint slide via email to your TA:
    In email subject line write: ARCH170_XC_YOUR LAST NAME_SECTION#

VI. Presentation at Final Lecture

    Each TA will choose the best two image sets from each section. These images will be included in the Power Point presented in the final lecture, "Current Urban Issues." You will be called upon to present your ideas in this final lecture as part of a "town hall meeting Format". If you are not at the lecture and you are called upon, you will receive a 0 for the assignment.
